Message from Core Council President Laura McLeod - July 23, 2025

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our recent community meeting. It was lively, heartfelt, and full of thoughtful suggestions. The Core Council is reflecting on what we heard and assessing how we’ll move forward, building on work already in motion and focusing our energy where we can make the greatest difference. We’ll keep you posted!

There’s already a lot to celebrate—from inspiring weekly speakers, music,  and uplifting classes to a volunteer effort that’s second to none (and we'll gladly welcome more of you!). Our Open Mics are joyful, welcoming new faces thanks to the posters in our windows and outreach through Facebook and other channels.

Meaningful Movies is off to a strong start in partnership with Sustainable Ballard, with two screenings now behind us. Most recently, Fish War explored the ongoing fight for Indigenous fishing rights here in the Pacific Northwest, followed by a powerful discussion with the filmmakers. It was a vivid reminder of how deeply our survival is tied to the health of our salmon. If you missed it, you can learn more through Salmon Defense or the Northwest Indian Fisheries Commission.

And this Saturday, July 26, don’t miss Kit, Cat & Caboodle—we can always use more levity and laughter. Have some fun with Guy Nelson and his improv friends. We promise a delightful Saturday night.

Thank you for your continued care and presence. This community is shaped by all of us—and I’m grateful to be in it with you.Message
